No to Apartheid – Keine öffentliche Unterstützung für die Zionismusfeiern in Basel

Zionismus-Feiern 125 Jahre

Einmal mehr bereitet sich Basel darauf vor, Feierlichkeiten zum Jubiläum der zionistischen Bewegung und den ideologischen Grundlagen des heutigen Staates Israel zu unterstützen, der auf palästinensischem Boden gegründet wurde, aber gekennzeichnet ist von unzähligen diskriminierenden Gesetzen und Praktiken. Der Anlass wird von der Basler Regierung unter Regierungspräsident Beat Jans (SP) unterstützt. Er findet Ende August statt und wird begleitet von einer massiven Militär- und Polizeipräsenz. Die geschätzten Kosten belaufen sich auf 5,7 Mio. Franken.

Einmal mehr blendet die politische Vertretung Basels die konkrete Realität in Israel aus, das in der Kontinuität des 1897 in Basel formulierten zionistischen Selbstverständnisses ein Apartheidregime über das palästinensische Volk errichtet hat. Was PalästinenserInnen und diverse UN-VertreterInnen, beispielsweise im jüngsten Bericht von Michael Lynk, Sonderberichterstatter für die Menschenrechtslage im 1967 besetzten palästinensischen Gebiet bis Mai 2022, und Ausschüsse schon lange konstatiert haben, wurde in den letzten Jahren von anerkannten Menschenrechtsorganisationen in Israel (B’Tselem und Yesh Din) und der Welt (Human Rights Watch und zuletzt Amnesty International) bestätigt. Auch unzählige jüdische Intellektuelle in Israel und der Welt verurteilen dieses zionistisch-israelische Selbstverständnis, das im Namen des Judentums der palästinensischen Bevölkerung in Israel, dem israelisch besetzten palästinensischen Gebiet und der Diaspora grundlegende Rechte systematisch vorenthält.

Will Basel sich den Ruf erwerben, mitten im 21. Jahrhundert weiter an der Unterstützung eines Apartheidregimes festzuhalten und dessen VertreterInnen willkommen zu heissen?

Will Basel weiterhin leugnen, dass ein Zusammenhang zwischen dem als so bedeutungsvoll bezeichneten 1. Zionistenkongress 1897 im Stadtcasino und der heutigen politischen Realität des Staates Israel besteht?

Will Basel den Kopf in den Sand stecken angesichts der systematischen Diskriminierung und Entrechtung der PalästinenserInnen aufgrund ethnisch-religiöser Zuschreibungen?

Will Basel weiterhin enorme Steuergelder investieren und mit einem riesigen Polizeiaufgebot aufwarten, um einem zutiefst rassistischen Regime den roten Teppich auszurollen?

Wir fordern von der Basler Regierung mit Nachdruck, dass sie sich aus jeglicher Beteiligung an diesen Feierlichkeiten zurückzieht.

Wir fordern die Basler Regierung auf, die für die Feierlichkeiten budgetierten rund 5 Mio. Franken für andre Projekte umzuwidmen, die sich einem gleichberechtigten Zusammenleben von Menschen ungeachtet ihrer ethnisch-religiös-kulturellen Identität widmen, sei es im Nahen Osten oder hier vor Ort.

Wir fordern die Basler Regierung auf, eine kritische historische Aufarbeitung der kolonialen Geschichte des Zionismus und deren Folgen für die heutige Politik Israels anzustossen und politische Schlussfolgerungen für die Haltung Basels zu Israel daraus zu ziehen.

Zionism celebrates 125 years

Once again, Basel is preparing to support celebrations marking an important anniversary of the Zionist movement and the ideological foundations of today’s State of Israel, which was founded on Palestinian soil, but which is riddled with discriminatory laws and practices. The event is supported by the government of Basel and its president Beat Jans (SP). The events at the end of August will be accompanied by a hugh military and police presence, the costs are estimated to amount to 5.7 million francs.

Once again, Basel’s political representatives are ignoring the concrete reality in Israel, which has established an apartheid regime over the Palestinian people in continuity with the Zionist self-image formulated in Basel in 1897. What Palestinians and various UN representatives such as the recent report by Michael Lynk, special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967 until May 2022, and committees have been stating for a long time – that Israel practices policies of apartheid – has been confirmed in recent years by recognised human rights organisations in Israel (B’Tselem and Yesh Din) and the world (Human Rights Watch and most recently Amnesty International). Countless Jewish intellectuals in Israel and the world also condemn this Zionist Israeli self-image which, in the name of Judaism, systematically deprives the Palestinian population in Israel, the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territory and the diaspora of basic rights, rights which are guaranteed by the United Nations.

Does Basel want to earn a reputation for continuing to support an apartheid regime and welcome its representatives in the middle of the 21st century?

Does Basel want to continue to deny that there is a connection between the 1st Zionist Congress held in 1897 in the Stadtcasino, which it praises as a significant event, and the political reality of the State of Israel today?

Does Basel want to bury its head in the sand in the face of the systematic discrimination and disenfranchisement of Palestinians on the basis of ethnic-religious attributions?

Does Basel want to continue to invest enormous amounts of taxpayers’ money and deploy a huge police force in order to roll out the red carpet for a profoundly racist regime?

We urge the Basel government to withdraw from any involvement in these celebrations.

We call on the Basel government to redirect the around 5 Mio. CHF budgeted by the City Council for the event to projects dedicated to the equal coexistence of all people regardless of their ethno-religious-cultural identity, be it in the Middle East or here locally.

We call on the Basel government to initiate a critical historical review of the colonial history of Zionism and its impact to today’s politics in Israel and to draw political conclusions for Basel’s attitude towards Israel.

Une fois de plus, Bâle s’apprête à soutenir les célébrations marquant un anniversaire important du mouvement sioniste et des fondements idéologiques de l’actuel État d’Israël, qui a été fondé sur le sol palestinien, mais qui est criblé de lois et de pratiques discriminatoires. L’événement est soutenu par le gouvernement de Bâle et par son président Beat Jans (SP). Les manifestations de la fin août seront accompagnées d’une forte présence militaire et policière, les coûts sont estimés à 5,7 millions de francs.

Une fois de plus, les représentants politiques bâlois escamotent la réalité concrète, à savoir qu’Israël a instauré un régime d’apartheid au détriment du peuple palestinien dans la continuité de l’idéologie sioniste formulée à Bâle en 1897. Ce que les Palestinien.ne.s et divers représentant.e.s des Nations unies, comme le récent rapport de Michael Lynk, rapporteur spécial sur la situation des droits de l’homme dans le territoire palestinien occupé depuis 1967 jusqu’en mai 2022, et des comités affirment depuis longtemps qu’Israël pratique une politique d’apartheid. Ce fait a été confirmé ces dernières années par des organisations de défense des droits humains reconnues en Israël (B’Tselem et Yesh Din) et dans le monde (Human Rights Watch et plus récemment Amnesty International). D’innombrables intellectuels juifs en Israël et dans le monde condamnent également cette image sioniste d’Israël qui, au nom du judaïsme, prive systématiquement de ses droits fondamentaux – droits qui sont garantis par les Nations unies – la population palestinienne d’Israël, celle du territoire palestinien occupé par Israël et celle de la Diaspora.

Bâle souhaite-t-elle avoir la réputation de continuer à soutenir un régime d’apartheid et d’accueillir ses représentant.e.s en plein XXIe siècle ?

Bâle veut-elle continuer à nier qu’il existe un lien entre le 1er Congrès sioniste tenu en 1897 au Stadtcasino, congrès dont elle vante l’importance, et la réalité politique de l’État d’Israël aujourd’hui ?

Bâle veut-elle faire l’autruche face à la discrimination systématique et à la privation de droits des Palestiniens sur la base d’attributions ethnico-religieuses ?

Bâle veut-elle continuer à investir d’énormes sommes d’argent des contribuables et déployer une force de police énorme afin de pouvoir dérouler le tapis rouge pour un régime profondément raciste ?

Nous demandons instamment au gouvernement bâlois de se retirer de toute participation à ces célébrations.

Nous demandons au gouvernement bâlois de réorienter les quelque 5 Mio. CHF budgétisés par le Conseil municipal pour l’événement à des projets dédiés à la coexistence égale de tous les peuples, indépendamment de leur identité ethno-religieuse-culturelle, que ce soit au Moyen-Orient ou ici localement.

Nous demandons au gouvernement de Bâle d’entreprendre un examen historique critique de l’histoire coloniale du sionisme et de son impact sur la politique actuelle en Israël et de tirer des conclusions politiques sur l’attitude de Bâle à l’égard d’Israël.
